When you’re on a low-carb diet like the keto or ketogenic diet, one of the things you miss the most is bread.
Seeing the possibilities, I kept experimenting in search of a simple wrapper; I wanted to be able to make chapatis without gluten, without a lot of carbohydrates, and without eggs.
In almost a year on this diet, I have tried a large number of recipes to make chapattis without corn and without wheat, but I didn’t manage to find anything until I found this recipe for flaxseed roti. Preparing them with hot water makes them flexible and does not break when rolled or folded, and that is what makes the difference when it comes to preparing a good chapatti.

To use flax seeds to make tortillas, I prefer to grind them in my blender just before use. Flaxseeds are a great source of omega 3 fats, but when ground, they go rancid very quickly. That’s why I never buy them ground. Sometimes I grind up enough seeds for a week or two of use, and store them in the fridge.
They have a slightly nutty flavor that works especially well for wrapping salads.

Flaxseed Keto Roti Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Flaxseeds ground
- 1 Cup Hot Water
- 1 Tsp Dry fenugreek leaves
- 1/2 Tsp Garlic powder
- 2 Tbsp Homemade Protein Powder
- Salt
Instructions
- Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan, then immediately add the water in the flaxseeds flour along with salt and optional ingredients.
- When you put the ingredients together, they should form a ball of dough. Leave it for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 4 to 6 parts. Preheat a non-stick skillet.
- To make each chapati, we place each portion of flaxseed dough on a sheet of baking paper, place another sheet on top and use a rolling pin to flatten it.
- If you want to ensure the round shape, you can use any kind of round plate or mould as shown in the video.
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Lightly grease the pan with a little oil and place flaxseed chapati, cook from both sides.
- You can roll and cook the rest of them. They become more flexible with the time they rest, especially if you have made several and stack them on top of each other.
- I usually make several chapati and store them in a plastic bag in the fridge. They keep very well there and become more flexible over time.
- If you want to make flaxseed parathas, just apply the ghee or butter while cooking and make crispy and healthy parathas and enjoy with spicy omelette or fried eggs.
- You can now use them to wrap salads, chicken rolls, etc. I hope you like them.
